School Aims
We aim to place learning, creativity and the building of self-worth at the centre of the school’s life by providing a secure and purposeful environment so that every pupil will develop mentally and physically as far as they are able.
Hurst Lodge aims to provide a broad general education and prepare the children through public examinations for further academic or vocational training, enabling them to become productive members of society.
Combined with formal academic education, the school aims to make provision for studying the performing and creative arts.
We aim for children to learn and gain pleasure from learning whilst contributing to the school community and achieving personal goals
Ethos
In our school, individuals are valued and encouraged to have a sense of their own worth; to show consideration for others and to see learning as a lifelong pleasure. Great importance is attached to self-discipline, good manners and respect for others. We trust that during their time at Hurst Lodge, each pupil will come to develop these qualities of character which have been and remain important traditions of our school.
We encourage children to learn through self-expression and participation in order to make the greatest use of their abilities.
We believe that all achievements and successes should be celebrated equally as this enables children to grow in confidence and self esteem. The sentiment behind our ethos can be summed up in a simple phrase 'accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative and be involved'.
It is also our belief that every pupil should be given the opportunity to succeed in some area of school life. We are aware that not all children can achieve in all areas and we delight in celebrating all achievements. Staff are aware that every child is an individual and has individual needs and we endeavour to cater for these as much as possible within the class situation. However, should extra support be needed then it may be provided on an individual basis further to consultation with both the Principal and the Parents.
