Years 1 and 2

Children join Year 1 for a full day from the age of 5+. Working parents may drop their children at 7.45am for breakfast, at 8.00am for Earlybirds or a 8.30am in time for registration.  School finishes at 3.30pm but there is the facility for after school care up to 6.00pm and there is a holiday club play scheme which children may attend. 

We have a broad modern curriculum that offers the opportunity to combine an academic education with creative and performing arts. Great emphasis is placed on the curriculum and the children are encouraged to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding required from Foundation Stage through to Key Stage 1. All children are treated as individuals, their own strengths as well as areas for further development are recognised.

In Year 1 all pupils learn English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, Religious Education, Art and History with their form teachers.  Subjects are taught through topic based themes which gradually move towards subject based schemes.  In Year 2 pupils continue the subject based curriculum established in Year 1.  All subjects are differentiated so that pupils can learn at a pace that suits their individual needs.  The flexibility to move in between year groups remains throughout the school.

During the school day children participate in a variety of activities including Information and Communication Terchnology, Spanish, Sport, Music, Drama and Dance, as well as the important process of playing and making friends. All children participate in the operation of the smallholding and will take part in specialised classes.  All children stay for lunch.  After school there are a variety of clubs to join including football, swimming, art, gardeinig, dance and drama.
